Private Lessons, Group Lessons, and Online Music Lessons
At Legacy we offer two formats through which our students study music: private lessons and group lessons. With this, we believe it is very important for you to know the difference when deciding which lesson to enroll your child in.
A Private Lesson is the highest level of training we offer our music students. We reserve these lessons for students who exhibit a promising future in the performing arts and demonstrate strong talent abilities, discipline through at-home practice, the ability to learn music on a weekly basis, and leadership skills both on and off the stage. Theses students are in preparation to potentially become professional soloists, recording artists, college majors and beyond. The benefit of private lessons is that it allows your instructor to work with you in one-on-one 30-minute, 45-minute, or 1-hour sessions customized to your specific artistic needs.
Our Group Lessons are also for our students who exhibit a promising future in the performing arts and are viewed as our DISCOVERY ZONE for beginning students of all ages and ability levels. Group lessons are where hidden artistic talent is revealed and cultivated prior to investing in private lessons, and it gives parents a bird's-eye view to determine if their child is serious about the arts or just curious about them. A group lessons is a great format for your student to experience learning in a group setting with peers near in age, grade, and ability levels, making learning music even more fun and innovative while learning the basics of great musicianship through games, activities, and weekly theme-based music assignments. The benefit of taking group lessons is that it is a great way for young students to gain confidence, enjoy performing in a safe, non-judgmental environment in class and on recitals, and meeting new friends.
Private Voice Lessons are reserved for students ages 10-18 and our Voice Class is for students ages 5 to 18. During voice lessons, students are instructed in age-appropriate and healthy vocal warm ups, breath support, diction and word articulation, music interpretations, vocal dexterity, vocal range, various singing styles, stage presence, performance etiquette and more - all in preparation for our studio recitals, auditions, performances, studio recording time, and beyond.
Private Piano Lessons are reserved for students ages 10 to 18, and we also reserve private piano lessons for select students ages 2 to 9 in our primary and elementary division who exhibit the aforementioned qualities at an early age, but they are carefully selected by our director. Group Piano Lessons are for students of all ages and abilities who enjoy learning in a fun atmosphere. Both private and group piano lessons instruct students on sitting posture, hand positioning, musical notation, rhythm, scales, theory, learning new repertoire, and performance etiquette.
Private Guitar Lessons are reserved for students ages 6 to 18 and Group Guitar Lessons are for students of all ages with little to no previous guitar experience. Both private and group guitar lessons teach the basic instrument fundamentals such as chords, strumming patterns, reading music notation, fingering, picking patterns, and much more. While guitars are available for use in class, it is mandatory for your child to have a guitar of their own for "at-home" weekly practice. For your convenience we rent our guitars to responsible students for $75 per semester.
Violin Lessons are given in a combination of one weekly private and bi-weekly group lesson. Students may start as early as age 3 to 18. These lessons are based on the Suzuki Method, which highly encourages parental involvement to help your child practice at home as well as participate in lessons. We do not provide instruments for violin for in-class practice; therefore, instrument purchase or rental is required from an outside vendor. We also offer lessons on viola and cello based on instructor availability.
MusIQ CLUB TECHNOLOGY LAB
MusIQ Club is a supplemental music theory, music history, and ear training computer technology class for students of all ages. The design of the computer is based on the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum, which is based on the premise that music makes you smarter and builds your IQ. This 45-minute course is a great add-on to any one of our private or group lessons as it builds great musicianship, composing and arranging skills, and other musical technique at their own pace. Unlike music lessons alone, MusIQ club is not taught using direct instructions from a teacher - instead students are set up on modules by their instructor that will ultimately guide them along to success.
MUSIC EXPLORER SERIES
Our Music Explorer classes in this series are designed to introduce children ages 2 to 5 to the world of music at the youngest age possible so that by the time they reach our elementary division, they will already be ahead of the game. These classes allow young children to explore the various forms of music-making through our Piano Explorer Class, Guitar Explorer Class, Violin Explorer Class, and General Music Explorer Class. By the time your child reaches our elementary division, she/he will have a knowledge base of music in all forms including but not limited to: the piano, guitar, violin, Suzuki classroom instruments, recorders, African Drumming, and "Boom Whacker" instruments.
